Today is May Day or as it's commonly known up here as Le premier jour de mai.
I love the month of May, I find it to be the gateway to summer: The fragrant aroma of flowers that are blooming, pretty butterflies are fluttering around, the smell of fresh cut grass and the birds chirping-- however I do wish they'd stop chirping at the unholy of 3am.
The early Romans made May as the third month in their calendar. But later they made January as the first month so May became the fifth month of the year.
There are many versions of how May was named, but the most common one is, it was named for the the roman Goddess Maia, and her name was related to increase and growth.
