Cocaine Princess here.
The month of December has arrived bringing us endless flyers in the mailbox for Pre-Pre Boxing Day sales in retail stores, hearing Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas" at least 10x a day and daily Christmas specials on TV. Of course along with the specials are the ads, many of them classics that no matter how many times we've seen them they just melt our hearts each and everytime.
Well, German supermarket chain EDEKA has released a truly depressing Christmas ad that’s gone viral on social media.
The commercial, which is a minute and 46 seconds long, features an elderly man receiving a letter from his daughter that she won’t be able to make it for a Christmas visit. So, the man is forced to celebrate alone, preparing a lonely-looking meal for himself.
A year appears to pass and it’s time for Christmas once again. Once more his children are too busy to care, and he's too old to deal with the pain. And then he dies.
My first reaction, "OMG this is awful!"
Until I saw the ending and said, "Hmmm....."
Viewed by nearly 20 million people the responses on social media have been, "this is emotionally manipulating" to "I hate it" to "heartbreaking."
My response, "Hmmmm." Honestly, I can't seem to form an opinion on this one.
What do you think, Lovelies?
