The Gymnasium Part 4: The Toast Dilemma

****Updated Saturday June 26th****

The scores from games played today are updated below.

I didn't see the match between Ghana vs. USA but from what I heard it was a 'stinging, and tough defeat'  "Asamoah Gyan scored 3 minutes into overtime, leading the Black Stars to a 2-1 victory that ended a thrilling but ultimately unfulling World Cup for the United States that was watched by record audiences back home."

The other match: Uruguay beat South Korea and they will advance to the quarterfinals.

Two big matches will be played tomorrow, Sunday June 27th:

The British tabloids have plenty to say about this game. {Their rivalry began in 1966}  Which ever team wins will advance and the losing team will be sent home.

Team Germany vs. Team England*
9:45am

Team Argentina vs. Team Mexico
2:15pm

*Fingers crossed David Beckham will be at the game again, watching and cheering from the sidelines.

**** Updated: Friday June 25th 12:06pm:

Brazil vs. Portugal

The game lasted 90 minutes with 5min of additional time. To quote the commentator:

"The 2nd half of the game was worse than the 1st half! I've never seen so many yellow cards handed out!"

Neither team scored but good news: Brazil leads in their group with the most number of points allowing them to advance. ****

Cocaine Princess here

........By the time they were done telling me {and thanks to their in depth report I don't need to read the books} breakfast was served to us but there were several little problems beginning with Problem #1 a.k.a. "The Toast Dilemma."

Yes my lovelies the wait is finally over!! After 7 days of waiting I present to you {insert drum roll}.........

Part 4: The Toast Dilemma

As each one was given their plate of breakie which consisted of toast, eggs, bacon and mini hash browns with their choice of milk or juice as a beverage, one girl said she preferred her toast cut in the shape of a triangle and not a rectangle while another wanted his toast cut in the shape of a rectangle and not a triangle. Talk about a dilemma, right?! Since neither of them had touched their toast I told them to switch.

And so the dilemma involving the toast was solved in a matter of seconds. Hey it’s perfectly understandable. Long time followers of my blog know that I prefer square waffles over round ones. Why? I have come to the conclusion square waffles just taste darn better than round ones.

If only the problem had ended there. Here were some other problems my gang had with breakie:

1}
"There's pulp in my juice. Yuck."

2}
"There’s bones {crust} on my toast. I can't eat this."

3}
"Why are my eggs folded? I asked for hard boiled."

4}
"I'm lactose intolerant, I can't drink milk.”

One by one with their plates I went up to the cooking area. At one point "A"  questioned what I was doing and more importantly why I wasn't with my assigned group? I explained it was because I was too busy playing waitress.

I was able to straighten out their orders to their satisfaction:

1}
The pulp in the juice was strained.

2}
The bones from the toast was neatly removed.

3}
The folded eggs were returned for a hard boiled egg.

4}
A cold glass of OJ was given to the one who had trouble digesting dairy.

Ahh, finally there was peace among my peeps.

Breakfast Chit-Chat

As we chowed down, Pint Size Dictator {PSD} asked me a question:

“Where’s your bossy sister?”

I pointed to where she was. Sister was with the other volunteers cooking.

PSD: How come you’re not with her?

ME: I’d rather be here with you guys.........and because I don’t cook.

Immediately following my reply Froggie decided to shell out some age old wisdom.

FROGGIE: The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Something you may want to think about my friend.

I put down my fork.

ME: Who told you that?

FROGGIE: My gramps did but I don’t think it’s true. Mommy can’t cook but daddy still keeps her around.

Trying not to laugh I said:

ME: How have you been? I haven’t seen you since before Christmas.

FROGGIE: That’s right. Oh boy it has been a long time but my daddy sees you every morning. You go jogging.

I informed my little acquaintance about a conversation I had with his dad one morning where during a friendly exchange of banter I had been told Froggie quit his karate lessons. When I questioned him if it was true he nodded his head to indicate yes. I then asked what the reason was. Before answering he took a bite out of his toast, washed it down with his juice, scratched his head and after taking a deep breath he answered:

FROGGIE: I got bored with it so I tried out for the swim team and guess what? I made the team.

ME: That's awesome.

FROGGIE: I'm having a ton more fun!

A new little face joined in on the conversation.

NEW FACE: We're on the same team and we have our first big meet in the city in 2 weeks. We compete against another school.

ME: Very cool. Both of you guys give me a high five.

After giving me high fives I giggled.

FROGGIE: What's so funny friend?

ME: You're just so cute.

FROGGIE: Cute?
Mommy says I'm devilishly handsome.

Here's the real reason why I was giggling:

Just like all children Froggie is very cute but as cute as he is, he's also very skinny. You know how some kids have pipe cleaner like arms and legs? I'm quite sure by the time he hits puberty he'll bulk up but as soon as he told me he was on the swim team I immediately pictured Froggie wearing tiny speedos and goggles.

The Silent Auction

One year ago the school was raising money for The Breakfast Club, this time money was being raised to send kids to summer camp whose families can't afford. Aside from buying a plate of food, like last year there were several items up for auction where all proceeds went to the charity. If you recall auction fever hit several of us, myself included, and we all wound up over paying for items we bid on. Hmm, now that I think about it I severely overpaid.

Remember this folding lawn chair I kept insanely bidding on and eventually won?:

This year lawn chairs were up for auction again. Each chair was hand-crafted but this time each chair was hand-painted with pictures on them. I really liked this one.

The picture is of a whale and it came with a matching little patio table.

I placed one bid and one bid only.

QUARTER-TIME

Everyone was interested in trading their quarters first before doing any type of arts and crafts. In 2009 the Royal Canadian Mint released into circulation special quarters honoring snow and ice sports for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. It took awhile but my collection is complete.

 The quarters are still in circulation so before leaving "A" and I both checked our wallet and between the 2 of us we had near $5.00 in spare coins. One more special quarter was released in honor of Sidney Crosby after he scored the winning goal. I was lucky enough to get my manicured hands on one. Are any of my lovelies interested in knowing how it happened? Yes or no?

If your answer is no, too bad. I've decided to share it anyways:

It was a cold and drab morning in March and I was out for my daily morning jog when I had a sudden craving for a Diet Dr. Pepper. {When I get a craving for something they always come at the oddest times} I stopped in the 7-11 and headed to the back of the store where the cold drinks are kept. As I was making my way there I couldn't help but notice the ice cream freezer had a sign: Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia ice cream bar was on special. “2 for the price of 1.” Although I was tempted I said no and continued walking. I grabbed a cold bottle and proceeded up to the counter where the cashier gave me change after giving her 2 toonies. It wasn't until I returned home and emptied my pockets I realized I had one of the most valuable Olympic coins in my possession. I was so happy I did a backwards somersault!

The little ones all had their coins and their boards in front of them on the table and any double coins they had were securely kept in ziplock bags. I carried mine in my Gucci wallet. Everyone was busy trading their coins back and forth. 2 of them didn't have the hockey quarter and since I already had a couple of them I was more than happy to give my spare ones up. If you had only seen the look on their faces. One of them ran up to his mama to show his coin set was complete. That portion of the day was pretty fun.

ARTS & CRAFTS

We cut, we pasted, we glued, we colored, we molded things out of clay and painted them. It was known as the messy portion of the day but also quite fun.

After we cleaned up, a light snack was served and off we went to watch the DVD movie they all unanimously agreed on.

To be Continued.........
