It's that time of year again. It has at last arrived--- where there will be endless line-ups at the liquor and beer store, traffic jams on the highway as people drive up to their cottages, no matter where you turn all you will be able to smell is charcoal all weekend long and flags will be hoisted high and will be waving proudly. Yes, my lovelies it's the May 2-4 Weekend also known as Victoria Day. It's Queen Victoria’s birthday and Canada, being part of the Commonwealth celebrates by having the day as a statutory holiday, however nobody cares about the late Queenie's birthday.
The holiday is colloquially known as May Two-Four in parts of Canada; a double entendre that refers both to the date around which the holiday falls (May 24) and the Canadian slang for a case of twenty-four beers (a "two-four"), that will be consumed by devoted beer drinkers during the long weekend.
This weekend also means patio season is in full swing marking the un-official kick off to summer and after the long winter we've had all I have to say is bring it on! What a welcome relief it's been to open up the kitchen blinds each morning and not seeing our patio deck buried deep in snow.
