Pumpkins, Zombies & Larry David

grpum41.jpg

This is my 555th post!!

Cocaine Princess here.

I love Halloween and everything related to October 31st. For as long as I can remember when the 1st of October arrives I begin counting the days til the end of the month. Even in my teen years I celebrated Halloween. I wasn't one of the those teens who found Halloween lame. How can anyone not love this day? From watching scary movies in the dark, to the decorations, to dressing up in costumes and I love handing out candy (I give out only the good stuff- chocolates!!). I especially adore the sweet little ones in their cute costumes wobbling their way up the walkway with mommy and daddy close behind. Some of them are so young I don't think they have a clue as to what's going on. The worst trick or treaters are some of the teens who show up without a costume. "I'm dressing up as myself" is what they say. The least they can do is make some type of effort, right? How hard is it to put on a frigging mask?! Regardless, everyone who rings our doorbell (costume or not) gets a treat, after all it's one day out of the year. If you happen to be one of those individuals who refuses to hand out candy to teenagers I urge you to watch the clip below:

It's okay to stand out from the crowd on Halloween!!

This past Friday the 13th AMC began their annual Fear Fest by airing non stop scary movies, mainly the Halloween and Friday the 13th franchises. I've seen each one a million and one times over but is there any other better time of year than now to watch them? On their website is a poll asking viewers to vote on what is the "Greatest Horror Movie Franchise."

Here are the Top 10:

Halloween (Two things I've never understood about this franchise: 1) Since bullets don't kill Michael Myers why does Dr. Loomis in every film (with the exception of Halloween 3) continue to shoot his gun at him? If one round of bullets didn't kill the maniac does he really think a second round or even third round will? 2) What was the point of Halloween 3: Season Of The Witch?  )

Friday The 13th
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Saw
Child's Play
Night Of the Living Day
A Nightmare On Elm Street
Paranormal Activity
The Exorcist
Hellraiser

What's your favorite horror franchise? Did it make the above list? As for scariest film many still find The Exorcist to be the scariest of all time. The first time I saw this film I was scared beyond my mind and yes I do agree it's one frightening film but it's kind of moved down on the list for me. The Strangers and Insidious tops my list as scariest films.

Each year for my October 31st entry I post a Halloween themed song.  I'm having a little trouble this year deciding which song to select. My usual favorites are:

Morning After Dark: Timbaland ft. Nelly Furtado &  Soshy

She-Wolf: Shakira

Bogeyman: White Zombie

Pet Shop Boys: Heart

I couldn't think of any others nor could I decide what song to pick so I asked sister a few hours ago who replied, "the cute Colombian one." At first I thought she was talking about me but she was referring to Shakira. After a few seconds she changed her mind,"Pet Shop Boys. Choose their song, darling."

Also, it's a tradition of mine to post a Halloween cocktail. So in honor of this spooky day I present to you....
THE ZOMBIE

"The perfect drink to kick off any Halloween party. This drink was created in the late 1930’s trying to cure a hangover"

INGREDIENTS
1/2 oz white rum
1 1/2 ozs golden rum
1 oz dark rum
1/2 oz 151-proof rum
1 oz lime juice
1 tsp pineapple juice
1 tsp papaya juice
1 tsp sugar

DIRECTIONS
Stir together all the ingredients except the 151 and pour into a 14-ounce glass 3/4 full of cracked ice.

Float the 151 on top (by pouring it into a spoon and gently dipping it under the surface of the drink).

Garnish with mint and/or fruit.

One Word, Silverware.

Cocaine Princess here.

For the past couple of years sister and I celebrate Thanksgiving together. Just us and no one else and we're more than happy with this ritual. You see, we tried doing the whole big gathering by inviting people over but each time we did there seemed to be a clash of personalities between my friends and sister's friends.

The way we celebrate Thanksgiving (Harvest Day) is either going out to eat or ordering takeout and staying home. As hard as this maybe to believe and it's quite possible it might be the only one thing we agree on, neither of us like the taste of turkey. Much like seafood my taste-buds aren't fond of this particular bird and I've tried various kinds: baked, fried, smoked, grilled, cold cut slices etc. My palette rejected each one. What can I say, chicken is the only bird I'll devour.  Anyways, this year sister and I decided to eat out and it was my unfortunate luck that it was her turn to select the location. "Good Lord!" I said, "This is where you want to eat?"

Upon entering the front door we were greeted by this sign. Can you guess where this is?

Still don't know what fine establishment we dined in? Here's another guess.

Give up? Popeyes. Thanksgiving was spent eating in a fast food restaurant.

They say advertising pays and both sister and I decided to try the Dip'n Chick'n. Apparently this particular item had returned. (I had no idea it had left. Hmm, wonder where it went?) I figured I'd be the one to decide whether or not it was Amazing.

The meal came with a choice of 2 sides. We selected the biscuits and fries. I myself decided to go with Poutine until the cashier (who was up-selling their new menu item) pointed out they now sold Cajun Poutine. I questioned whether or not it contained any shrimp since a good deal of food from the deep south contains shrimp and what not. To my relief all it contained aside from the regular cheese curds and gravy was herbs and spices. It was an extra $2.29 and because I had sister's debit card, I thought why the hell not, after all she was treating me. I know what you're all thinking, 'What an awesome big sister and such a big spender too taking the Princess to Popeyes and all.'

The cashier suggested I have a seat and would call me as soon as the order was ready.  Here's where we sat. Needless to say I wasn't very impressed with their decor.

Nor was I impressed with their choice of entertainment. The television was stuck to the all news channel. Topic of discussion: the budget battle in Washington.

Behold, this is what the Princess and her sister feasted on for Thanksgiving 2013.
The biscuits seemed to be drenched in butter. At first I was going to pass on eating them until sister said, 'one day of indulgence won't kill you.' I don't like it when she's right.

The Poutine was h-e-a-v-e-n-ly.....

It took forever to eat though on account of the plastic fork that kept on bending backwards. You never have this problem when you fine dine. One word, silverware.

The combo came with their new sauce, Cajun Chili Garlic Sauce and I was extremely disappointed.  You could hardly taste the Chili and being Latina I love my sauces (and food!) spicy.

For dessert we headed on over to Cinnabon. I ate the mini-bon smothered in creme cheese and drizzled with chocolate sauce.

All in all it was a very good and delicious day. I know at times I've written about how bossy my sister is, how she can be quite sarcastic with me and oh yeah, how can I forget her lectures. God how I hate when I'm faced with listening to her never ending lectures. It usually goes in one ear and out the other. Regardless, she's the only sister I have. I love her and I am thankful and very grateful for her. Truly, I don't know what I'd do without her. Muuuah!

But....

Cocaine Princess here.

So, I had my weekly Friday entry all written up and ready to post. All that was left was to add the photos from my spectacular Thanksgiving weekend that I took with my phone BUT I couldn't get them to download. Tech issues so I've been told. Had I posted the entry without the pictures it really wouldn't have had quite the same impact. Fingers crossed tech issues are solved quickly. Until next week....

Harvest Time

Cocaine Princess here.

It's that time of year again. Where here in the Great White North we will be celebrating what is known as Harvest on Monday. Psst, Harvest is really just a fancy term for Thanksgiving. Yes, we Canucks will be honoring this day by celebrating the harvest, counting our blessings of the past year and watching the big football game. Although we are a nation of hockey lovers this might come as a shock but we actually have a football league. Apparently there's a big game happening on Thanksgiving Day. I know this because I happened to hear something the other day on the news while channel surfing. Please don't ask what teams are playing because I don't have a clue.

I have so many things to be thankful for that if I was to list every little thing I'd be writing until next week so I'll keep it short and sweet:

I'm grateful and thankful for my loved ones, special friends, my health, the loyal readers of this blog & the wonderful life I've been blessed with. Knock Wood.

Let's Pretend It's September 20th

There Is Nothing New Under The Sun

Cocaine Princess here.

I have a very good explanation for the title of this post. You see September 20th is a very important date, so important that it's sacred. So important and sacred that I totally forgot the significance of it. September 20th is the anniversary of my blog. I hang my head in shame for being forgetful. It was 7 years ago on that date I posted my first entry. I'm not sure how I forgot but it wasn't until a week later I remembered.

Let's Pretend It's September 20th & please join me in this sing-a-long.

“Happy Blog Anniversary To Me,

Happy Blog Anniversary To Me,
Happy Blog Anniversary To Me, The Colombian Princess
Happy Blog Anniversary To Me!”

Since 2007 I've developed an amazing group of followers. From the bottom of my heart I sincerely appreciate and am thankful for every single one of them, in particular one. (~x)

With the exception of less than a handful, my entries are always posted after midnight. What can I say, it's when I do my best writing (and because I don't sleep very well)  Including this post I have blogged 551 entries. I always enjoy reading the comments I receive, and whether you comment or not I'm grateful to all who take time out of their day to swing on over here and read my what I have to say.

Seeing how it's past midnight as soon as I post this entry I'll be slipping under the covers and putting on the headphones and hopefully drift asleep while listening to music. Hmm, I think I'm in the mood for Euro music tonight.

I love this song.

To all my loyal and dear readers, it's finally Friday.

Whatever your plans are have a sweet first weekend of October. ~x
