December 31st 2013

Cocaine Princess here.

I can't believe how quickly this year has passed by. 2013 has been very kind and generous to me in so many ways and for that I'm extremely grateful.

Even though I won't be ushering in the New Year in the tropics, I'm still excited about tonight. I'll be with friends partying the night away in my glitziest outfit and a glass of champagne in my hand.

 ****

Did you know that:

There's something true about the popular quote that's often said this time of year, Out With The Old & In With The New. Whatever heartache, pain, anger or troubles that you maybe hanging onto, as hard as it maybe just release it. Don't let it cling to you in 2014. There's no better time of year than Jan. 1st to start fresh and not look back. After all....

If you follow my blog then you know I'm not one for making resolutions, however I did come across something in my opinion better than a list of resolutions

****

Wherever you are and however you ring in 2014 remember two important things as you toast in the New Year at the stroke of midnight:

1} Make your New Year's Eve wish.

2} Get your midnight kiss in by locking lips with your special someone between the hours of 11:59:55pm and January 1st at 12:00:36am.

****

Thank you all for stopping by my blog and taking the time to read what I have to say and I do hope you'll be back in the New Year.

My Loyal & Dear Readers, Here's wishing you a happy, successful New Year and whatever your heart desires may it come true in 2014. May You Find Your Light.

Salud!!

Latin Kisses,

Christmas 2013

Cocaine Princess here.

As you know from the entry posted here sister broke her leg and when I brought her home from the hospital sister was refusing to use the crutches she was given because she thought she didn't need them.

I've been very busy this holiday season with work and that meant many hours away from home and despite sister telling me she would be fine I didn't feel comfortable leaving her alone in the house with only one working leg which is why I suggested I hire a nurse to come in and help out for a bit. She felt she didn't need one and although I'm always use to getting my way I backed down and said, 'okay. I won't hire a nurse as long as you use your crutches.' She agreed and promised she would.

One morning sister requested a bagel while she was in the family room. Those of you who know me are more than aware that I don't have a domestic bone in my body but I am capable of toasting a bagel and a couple of other things too. I popped two in the toaster and asked whether she wanted it buttered or with creme cheese.

SISTER: Just plain, darling.

ME: Eww, how can you eat a bagel without any type of spread?

No big surprise but she didn't answer back. As I waited for the bagels to toast I ran upstairs to get my phone after hearing it ring.  I was nearing the bottom of the stairs when I heard a loud thud sound followed by "OW!" I ran back into the kitchen and what did my green eyes see? Sister on the floor and the container of Philadelphia creme cheese laying beside her.

ME: What the hell happened?!

SISTER: I changed my mind, I wanted the creme cheese.

ME:  So you thought you'd get it by yourself without your crutches?! You couldn't wait for two seconds for me to get back?!

I asked if she was alright and sister replied she couldn't move her arm.

Trip #2 To The Hospital

Throughout the car ride and even while waiting in the ER I didn't say a word to sister despite her trying to talk to me. To say I was mad was an understatement. To make a long story short, sister's fall resulted in her breaking her right arm.

I finally broke my silence.

ME:  Congratulations! Within a period of 6 days you managed to break your leg and arm.

Sister didn't just break her arm but according to the doctor the break was nasty and because her right hand is now in a cast even if she wanted to she's unable to use her crutches to get around.

I still don't understand why she kept on refusing to admit she needed help or why she was so hell bent on not using her crutches? Her not using the crutches resulted in sister losing her balance from the weight of the air cast. Had she used them she wouldn't have fallen.

Question: How is it that someone that's so smart (university educated) have so little common sense?

And so because of sister's injuries my annual winter vaycay to the hot, sultry tropics is on hold. This morning I didn’t wake up and slip on my bikini to head down to the white sandy beaches of South America. I will not be laying under a palm tree while sipping a Rum Runner. Of course sister said it would be okay for me to go (she's in more than good care) but it just didn't feel right leaving her. Needless to say my best friend Valentina was beyond upset. I'm not going to lie, I too am upset but as sister said to me the other day, things happen for a reason.  I'm a big believer of that but it still doesn't make it any easier.

Earlier in the week I was doing a little Christmas shopping. Just when you think you're done there's always that one more present. While browsing around I found this:

And in that same store I saw this. Too cute, eh?

Weather wise it's been quite rough for us. On the weekend we had a massive ice storm. Everything is literally encased in ice. Thankfully our power was out for less than 12hrs but hundreds of thousands of people are still without power. Our entire neighborhood looks like it's made out of ice, it's quite pretty but I've never seen anything like this before. The other day I stepped outside onto the walkway and it felt like I was walking on glass.

A Round Of Shots

Cocaine Princess here.

I love my sister, truly I do. Like all siblings throughout history we argue and have disagreements. But this past week I reached a new level of anger with her that if scientists were to measure that anger it would be off the frigging charts. I'll be blogging about that next week.

It's that time of year again where attending Christmas parties are in full force. The invitations arrived mid November and since I couldn't attend them all I had to sort through which parties I wanted to attend and which ones I couldn't since a few of them fell on the same date. For me, one of the best things about going to a party is shopping for a new outfit and accessories because as you know one cannot be seen in the same party outfit, right?

All of the parties have fell either on a Friday or on the weekend all except for one that is. One of the holiday gatherings occurred this past Wednesday. When I woke up yesterday morning the first two words I muttered were Holy Headache. Aside from the occasional margarita and Rum Runner (and that's during vacation) I don't like to drink. I’m usually that one person in a group that orders a Coke. On Hump Day I thought, what the hell, afterall tis the season to be merry. Among other things we also ordered a round of shots. The clear drinks on the side are Polar Bears which I liked......really liked!

All I can say is, it was a bad idea to drink during the middle of the week and my headache proved that.

By now I'm sure you've heard about the tragic death of actor Paul Walker. I was with friends when one of them broke the news the actor had been killed. We figured it was one of those twitter hoax deaths until she informed us the story was posted on a legitimate news website. I posted an entry related to the actor three weeks ago. Remember when I blogged about seeing the Fast and Furious II with my ex? Anyways, none of us knew the actor personally but hearing about his death saddened us.  One of my friends asked, “when he woke up did he know this would be his last day on earth?” It was a rhetorical question but the obvious answer is no. Just goes to show how short and fragile life is.

I read a quote once by Richard Bach, "Here is the test to find whether your mission on Earth is finished: if you're alive, it isn't."

Hmm, makes you think doesn’t it?

My loyal and dear readers, it’s finally Friday........The 13th!

The Incident Part 2

Cocaine Princess here.

Being her next of kin I received a phone call that my sister's in the ER and that's all the person on the other end would tell me. I wasn't even told if she was alright or not and not knowing is a feeling I can't even begin to put into words.

I arrived at the hospital and half of the stupid parking lot was closed because they were repaving the damn thing. A sign was posted informing visitors to use the parking lot that belonged to the retirement housing complex located around the block. So I drove around the block and there sat a security guard in a little booth. After explaining to him that I was a hospital visitor and not there to visit grandma and grandpa he took down my license plate and then granted me access by opening the gate. Although I tried remaining positive, from the moment I received the call, to the drive to the hospital and the retirement home and then walking to the hospital you wouldn't believe some of the horrible thoughts and images that kept running through my mind. I entered into the ER and sitting behind a desk was a woman wearing a green vest with a badge that read Volunteer. I informed her about the phone call  and after checking on the computer she directed me down the hall into Room 4. I arrive at Room 4 and this is what I find.

I thought either my eyesight is terrible or the volunteer directed me to the wrong room because sister was definetly not in Room 4. I went to the nurses station where I was told the orderly had just wheeled her away to get her xrays taken. I was able to capture the moment.

A sigh of relief came over me when I got the details about why sister was in the ER. She was in the school parking lot getting ready to leave and come home from a staff meeting when she fell. She knew right away she had broken something on account of her hearing a cracking sound. Just writing that gives me goosebumps. Luckily nearby was another teacher who immediately came to her aid and called 911. I was relieved only because I thought something terrible had happened, not that what happened to her wasn't bad but compared to some of the awful things in my head it was as I already mentioned, a relief.

While waiting for sister I snapped another picture. There's the ER doctor and I realize this is off topic but do you see the curtains on the left side of the picture? My God, I couldn't get over how ugly they were. The picture doesn't pick up the colors properly but the colors were yellow and brown with grey huge polka dots. Sheesh, they really need to hire a better decorator.

At that point I was feeling anxious and bored. Our little hospital has one x-ray room and apparently there was a line up of people in wheelchairs with something either broken or fractured. For a small town there sure were a lot of people with injuries that night. An hour or so later sister was wheeled back into the room. The first thing she said was,

Hello darling, are you okay? I gave her a big hug while nodding yes and then no. (That's how I was feeling) Seriously, again? This is the second time she's injured her foot. The last time this happened was back in 2008. Wait, make that that three times. She also broke her toe.

I asked, "what happened? The nurse said you fell in the school parking lot."

SISTER: I tripped and lost my balance.

ME: You tripped and you lost your balance? You're always telling me I need to stop running around in my high heels before I break something and yet here you are again in the ER with yet another foot injury.

SISTER: Yes, darling I see your point.

ME: Are you in any pain?

SISTER: I was given Advil.

ME: Advil? That's it?

SISTER: Until they know for sure they can't really give me anything stronger.

Sister's foot and ankle was incredibly swollen and all purpley and blue. If that wasn't bad enough her toes weren't even polished. I made mention of it but for some reason sister didn't reply back. Waiting for the x-ray to arrive took f-o-r-e-v-e-r and sister was becoming increasingly uncomfortable. The nurse came in and helped her out of the wheelchair and into the bed so she would be more comfortable. Although she wouldn't admit to it, I could tell by the look on her face she was in pain. Finally, the ER doctor graced us with his presence.

DR: How are you doing?

I thought to myself, 'what a stupid question.' How are you doing? Oh, she's just great. In fact she's doing so great she decided to check herself into the ER! I should mind you I wasn't in the jolliest of moods that night.

The Doctor didn't sugarcoat anything and delivered the news straightforward. Sister had broken her right foot AND fractured her ankle. When it comes to foot injuries does she have the worst luck or what? We next had to wait for the orthopedic surgeon who had been called in from another hospital located about 30min. away.  I joked with sister and said, "I wonder if the surgeon is cute like Charlie on Saving Hope?" He wasn't. He looked like he was ready to move into the retirement complex around the block. The orthopedic surgeon saw each patient one by one and in order of emergency. By the time it was sister's turn it was nearing 10:30pm. Similar to the first time he fitted her with an air cast and said it would take at least 8-10 weeks for her to be healed and then offered sister a prescription for Tylenol 3. Guess what? My stubborn sister flat out refused and said she didn't need it. I was so angry because I wanted her to say yes. I could have used it as a sleep aid! How inconsiderate of her. Yes, yes I know how wrong it is to say that but that stuff knocks you right out.

After giving us a pamphlet on taking care of foot injuries sister was free to go. I wheeled her into the lobby and said I would be right back.

15 minutes later.

SISTER: What took you so long? I thought something had happened to you.

ME: I had to walk to that retirement complex around the block.

SISTER: Why?

ME: That's where I parked the car.

SISTER: You couldn't have used the one here?

ME: No, I decided to park there for fun.

****

So, it's been over a week since The Incident and sister's stubbornness continues. Before she left the hospital she was given crutches but she refuses to use them.

"Your foot is broken and your ankle is fractured, you need some type of assistance," I stated when I caught her using the walls for support.

SISTER: I'm fine.

ME: Really? Is that why you're using the walls? You're not fine, you need help. Just admit it. What's the big deal?

Once more sister refused to admit she needed help. Over and over she kept repeating, I'm fine, I don't need any help. I can manage on my own. Since I have a busy schedule and can't be with her at all times there's no way I was going to leave her alone in the house, so out of the generosity of my heart I hired a nurse to stay and help out. Unfortunately me delivering that particular news didn't sit too well with her.

To be continued.

****

My loyal and dear readers, it's finally Friday and let me tell you it's been one hell of a week having to deal with sister's stubbornness. It's exhausting and I'm worn out.

Whatever your plans are have a terrific weekend.~x
