1. The Polar Vortex continues for us up here. Mother Nature is apparently hell bent on wanting to freeze us into human popsicles. Each time I leave the house I'm dressed as if I'm about to embark on a trip to Antarctica.

2. Today we celebrate the Chinese New Year or as it's sometimes called The Lunar New Year. According to the calendar 2014  is the Year of The Horse. In Chinese astrology the animal signs assigned by year represent what others perceive you as being or how you present yourself. Click here to find out what animal you are.

3. Did anyone catch the 56th Annual Grammy Awards this past Sunday? Daft Punk's album "Random Access Memories" took home 5 well deserved Grammys including Record of The Year & Album Of The Year. I said it once and I'll say it again, Euro Music rules!

4. What a truly memorable performance with Madonna and Queen Latifah joining Macklemore & Ryan Lewis for a performance of "Same Love" as 33 couples tied the knot. Queen Latifah is not an ordained minister, however, she was commissioned to perform the ceremony in the state of California just for that one time.

My 1st Post For 2014

We're 8 days into 2014 and I do hope you all had a fantastic time ringing in the New Year. As I previously explained my annual tropical winter get-a-way has been put on hold til further notice forcing me to have a stay-cation. Weather wise it's been totally crappy up here. Due to the extreme cold weather most of it was spent indoors watching TV which included The World Junior Hockey Championship. Unfortunately Team Canada placed 4th. That's okay, after all there's Sochi 2014 to look forward to. The Men's Olympic Hockey Team was announced yesterday and of course Sidney Crosby will be playing. The puck drops on Feb. 13th: Canada vs. Norway.

To say it's been bone chattering cold would be an understatement. So just how cold has it been? It's been so cold that we began experiencing something known as "frostquakes."   Last week we heard a loud boom followed by a loud bang. Sister and I thought the bookcase in the den had someone fallen over. I checked every single inch of the house and everything seemed normal. It wasn't until the next morning we realized the sound we heard was a frostquake. Something I had never heard of until this year.

Yesterday temperatures plummeted to -37C. Although there was a severe weather alert urging people to stay indoors I decided to brave the elements and head on out. I came back inside in under a minute. I still can't feel my nose. I looked in the mirror and thankfully my nose is right where it should be but I'm so afraid to touch it for the fear it may fall off because it's still so numb.
