Today was The King's Plate, the first leg of the Canadian Triple Crown. If you saw my previous post, then you know today was the rescheduled date, due to the freak weather last Saturday. It rained so badly all that was missing was Noah's Ark. There were a lot of angry ticket-holders upset at the fact that the rescheduled date was on Friday and not on a Saturday, as well as the fact Woodbine decided to open the event to non-ticket holders which I too was not exactly thrilled about( I already vented to Woodbine about that)
Seriously, Woodbine, is that not a fire hazard? There's nothing like non ticket-holders blocking your view! And there were no fun events taking place outside like there usually is. Very minimal decor. Woodbine decided to cancel the entire outdoor fanfare when it became an open event. 😤😤 Nobody understood the logic behind this.
Anyway, I still had a fun day, and thank God the weather cooperated. The Big Winner who took home The King's Plate-- "CAITLINHERGRTNESS" - who took home the prize. 🐎 🏆

What a disaster of a day!! 😫
Today was the 165th Annual "The King's Plate" which is Canada's oldest thoroughbred race that was founded in 1870. I've been attending the event since 2015. I know absolutely nothing about horses or betting, I go for the fashion and flair. The races are actually quite exciting. You can't help but feel the energy of the crowds. There were 13 races in total, with the final race being The King's Plate that holds a $1millon dollar purse. However the races were canceled after the 5th one.
Pic 2 & 3: I was waiting for the illustrator to finish up my picture when everyone's phone went off with a severe weather alert. Within minutes, Mother Nature unleashed her fury. We were told the tent wouldn't hold up and might collapse so about 30 of us ran into a wooden shed.

The rain finally tampered off. We all headed inside. My seats were awesome, trackside. Within a few minutes, the rain started up again. This time, Mother Nature threw in wind, lightning, and thunder. Because of that, the race start time became delayed since the horses were spooked. I probably sat in my seat for less than 10 minutes. The remaining were spent indoors watching different live feeds.
Pic: If you could only hear the disappointment and anger when it was announced, the remaining 6 the grand finale, The King's Plate was canceled. Apparently, the horses & jockeys are all insured and are not permitted to race when there's lightning.

So as of this moment, there's no winner, and all ticket holders were all informed to "stay tuned "

Last night, it was all about Billy Idol!! If you don't know, he was part of MTV's second British invasion when the Brits dominated the music charts in the 80s. I've always been a fan of his, and last night was the first time I'd seen him perform for his "40th Anniversary Rebel Yell Tour" It was a sold out show and the crowd was singing along to all his hits. I was hoping he'd sing "Sweet Sixteen" which is my favorite song from him. Check out the video here, which was released in 1987.
At one point, he talked about his two little grandkids and he loves taking them to preschool. I bet he's probably the coolest grandpa there! 🥰
All in all, it was an awesome show!!

About last night: Aug 1/24
The flight to Toronto was canceled yesterday after countless delays with crew issues we were told, and then we were told there was an "operational defect" with the plane. 🤦♀️
So, like cattle, we were shuttled in groups of ten and driven to another resort. Unfortunately, it wasn't back to the Palace but to another resort nearby. But of course, we Canadians made the best of it. Hey, we got an extra day in paradise and had a good time eating, talking and swapping worst travel delay stories.
So far since last night, Sunwing has changed our departure time at least
3x....
**Update-- we all made it home safe & sound. The flight departed late afternoon Aug 2/24.

About last night: July 31/24
About last night: It was all about The White Party!!
The parties that were occurring were happening at the sister resort next door. Not sure what was going on, but upon leaving, the Mexican National Guard made an appearance. They were situated all over the property, including to the entrance to the resort I'm staying at. I'm not sure why, though?
Despite the craziness last night, there wasn't any trouble reported, at least not to my knowledge. Everyone was just having a damn good time!!
I didn't get to bed til 130am...and I still woke up at 5am 😖😖
