Happy Hour: Day 1

Cocaine Princess here.

Not that long ago I had a full physical and my doctor wanted to go over the results with me. On Friday I went to see him.

There were 2 things he wanted to discuss.

MY HDL (High Density Level) IS LOW

According to the doctor the higher the level the better. He then proceeded to tell me the 2 sure ways I can raise it.

"Eating cold water fish: mackerel, herring-"

I stopped him right there in mid sentence and said,

"I can't eat fish."

"Why?"

"Because I don't like it," I replied. "I once ate some halibut when I was 6 and didn't like it at all."

"Was that the last time you ate a piece of fish?"

"No I decided to give it another go in 2002. I tried the Mahi-Mahi."

"How was it?"

"Yucky-Yucky."

He laughed. It wasn't meant as a joke. I was being honest. He suggested I take a supplement instead.

The 2nd suggestion he gave, alcohol. Alcohol will help to raise my HDL. My doctor actually encouraged me to drink but because I'm a female only one drink a day is allowed.

I AM 3.2 KILOS UNDERWEIGHT

Hearing that bit of news made me feel awesome until my sister decided to butt in. A very big mistake on my part for bringing her along.

"She hardly eats anything. She drinks only Slim Fast. When she does eat she carefully only chooses food with little or no fat at all."

"Slim Fast is not food," he commented.

"I disagree," I proudly said back.

Hey! I wasn't about to let "A" and Doc-Boy gang up on me. He continued.

"We all need some fat in our bodies. It cushions our organs and acts as a buffer towards many diseases."

"I also eat fruits, vegetables and I eat cereal," I added.

"That still is not enough. You need other foods to receive the much needed nutrients and vitamins and-"

I cut him off again.

"And that's why I drink Slim Fast. It has all "the much needed nutrients and vitamins" I need. "It says so right on the can."

"I would not recommend or endorse that product to any of my patients. Do you work out?"

"5 days a week between 1.5 and 2 hours a day," answered my sister who failed to take notice the question was directed at me and not at her.

This time I was the one who shook my head and took a deep sigh and thought, "why oh why didn't I just leave her back in the waiting room with the stack of 3 year old Reader's Digest Magazines?"

The doctor looked right into my eyes and had this look on his face. I shifted my eyes to the human skeleton that stood in the corner. I once asked my sister when I was little why doctors keep skeletons in their offices? Her answer: "To warn little girls what will happen to them if they don't listen to their older sisters. They get turned into skeletons and are displayed in doctors offices everywhere." I honestly believed her at the time.

"For someone like you that is 3.2 kilos underweight and with low HDL, exercising 2 hrs is putting too much stress on your heart."

"But I feel just fine," I commented.

Doc-Boy turned around in his swivel chair with my medical file still in his hand and at his desk began to scribble something down and
swiveled back around and said the following:

"I want you to cut back on your work out. Only 25-30 minutes. Gain 3.2 kilos, take your supplement and remember no more than one drink a day."

Talk about a demanding person. I can honestly say that was the first time a person has demanded anything from me. Usually I'm the one giving the demands.

As we were leaving the building in the elevator I turned to my sister and asked, "what do you suppose he was scribbling down in my file?"

"Patient refuses to listen. Patient is stubborn," she said.

"I should have just left you in the car," I said back.

SUNDAY AUGUST 2nd

I woke up early this morning feeling bright and optimistic about everything until I stepped into the kitchen. There was "A" putting my fattening breakie on a tray. No need to say whose side she was on. I went into the family room, plunked myself down on the sofa and turned on the T.V. She placed the tray down on the coffee table in front of me and then just stood there staring at me.

"What are you doing?" I asked.

"I'm going to watch you eat darling," she replied.

"What? Why?"

"For my own satisfaction and to make sure you don't dump anything in the garbage when I'm not looking."

Hmm, she was right. I probably would have. Every Sunday morning my sister and I have a traditional Sunday breakfast together but I usually tend to stay away from anything that clogs and hardens my arteries. I don't know if I can handle eating like this 7 days a week AND with "A" hoovering over me like a prison guard at each meal. I leaned over and put the tray in my laps and picked up the fork.....After I swallowed my first bite I said,

"Oh God I can already feel my pretty La Senza panties cutting off my circulation."

1:00 PM

I decided to take ole doc-boy's advice and have a drink. Truth to be told and I don't know why I'm not that big on drinking. I really don't care for it (Cinco de Mayo is the exception) but under the current circumstances I'm going to be having one drinkie a day. My sister is the opposite, she enjoys having a drink every now and then and is pretty good at mixing drinks. When I do have a drink (except for when I'm with my best friend Valentina who literally shoves alcohol down my throat) it's either a nice and sweet glass of red wine or a Margarita. Margaritas are my ultimate favorite drinks. (I drank one last week) I love the way they look, I love the color, the taste and I especially love licking the salt off the rim. Mmm-mmm.

Since I had a very long and tiring day yesterday and because I wasn't going anywhere today HAPPY HOUR in my household took place at 1pm. My sister blended me a WATERMELON MARGARITA.

2 tsp sugar, plus sugar to coat the glass rim.
1 cup cold seedless watermelon chunks
Juice of 1/2 fresh lime

1-1/2 oz açaí -flavored or silver tequila
1/2 oz Triple Sec
Fresh Ice

Moisten the rim of a large cocktail glass and dip in sugar.

Add all ingredients to a blender and blend well. Add the ice a few cubes at a time to make blending easier.

Pour into glass

"Why mess with a classic?" I asked. I wanted a regular one."

"You'll like this one," she said.

And down the hatchet it went.

My verdict on a WATERMELON MARGARITA?

Yum-Yum.

But not as yummy-yummy as a regular margarita.

Tomorrow, Happy Hour: Day 2.

XOXOXOXO,
Cocaine Princess

Mm, I love watermelons and all sorts of WM flavoured refreshments. I like fasting every now and then, and when I have time off I go on water and herbal teas but if it's busy times I fast on watermelons - I get the needed amount of fluid and the sugar in it gives the minimal energy to get through the day.

Ooo I'm with ya on the Margaritas. I actually just had a fabulous one on Saturday night at a Mexican restaurant hubby and I went to. My fav part is the salt. :)

Bummer about the doc visit. Hope everything works out for ya!

Passion Fruit at 8:48,
Fasting on watermelons? Hmm, I may have to give that a try sometime.

Allyson at 2:06,
Licking the salt is the best isn't it?

Cole,
It was pretty yummy!

a pleasure,

in answer to your question,

i would suppose we have mutual friends in this world of blog stuff we dip our toes into from time to time. (probably a lil to much)

i must have clicked on some mutual persons blog roll and landed here. felt comfy, and decided to stay.

bikers are not the usual preachers,

as we do not have a "box" to go to on sunday morning. we have the wind, the road, and where ever the Good Lord lets a land.

Be Blessed
