2010 World Cup: Day 17

****Updated: Tuesday June 29th 12:52pm

No Asian team has ever beat a South American team and Japan was ready on the field to be the first. It was Japan's Blue Samurais against Paraguay. The score was 0-0 and after 90min the game went into 30 min of overtime. After 15 minutes there was no goal. After another 15min, still no frigging goal. Both coaches were frustrated and ready to burst!

After 120 minues Japan had 4 yellow cards and Paraguay was issued 1 and the score was tied at 0-0.

For the first time at the World Cup 2010 the winner was determined on a penalty shoot out. Each team received 5 shots.

Paraguay won the coin toss and scored a goal. Next, Japan.
The score 1-1.

..........Japan missed a shot giving a clear advantage to the South Americans who scored.

Paraguay: 4 Japan: 3

At this moment Japan's players began to pray on the field when it was Parguay's turn.

In the end Paraguay won crushing the Blue Samurais dream and for the first time Paraguay has made it to the quarter finals.

Final Score: 5-3 on penalties.

****Updated: Monday June 28th 4:25pm

......And the samba beat goes on and on!!

The Samba Kings played an awesome game against Team Chile. In the 34th minute the first goal by Brazil was scored, 4 minutes later, the second. The 3rd came in the second half.

Brazil plays next against The Netherlands in the quarter finals.

Hmm, will Team Brazil samba their way into the finals? We shall see.

My latest World Cup souvenir: a Team Brazil flip-flop key chain.

Day 17:

Two of World Cups biggest rivals battled it out today.

VS.

According to several reports the prediction:  England: 2 Germany: 2

England wins on penalties.

The Reality:

All I can say, this match was far more exciting and controversial than Brazil playing Portugal. It has been called "England's worst ever World Cup defeat." Before the first half was over Germany had scored 2 goals! The second half: 2 more goals in twelve minutes! As one commentator stated: "Germany drove a stake through the heart into England and got their sweet revenge after 44 years."

My thoughts on Team England's loss? Hmm, perhaps if God wasn't so busy saving the Queen he could have helped the boys across the pond score a few goals.

So what does Germany winning mean? Well my lovelies it means 4 things:

1} England has been sent home.

2} Germany advances to the quarter finals and will be playing against Team Argentina who won today's match against Mexico. Adiós México.

3 }The Team England flag is no longer waving from my sister's car.

AND BEST OF ALL:

4} Sister has stopped humming "Rule, Britannia!"

And thank God because it was driving me frigging crazy.

Sunday June 27th

Germany vs. England
4-1

Argentina vs. Mexico
3-1

Monday June 28th

     Netherlands vs. Slovakia
2-1

*Brazil vs. Chile
3-0

Tuesday June 29th

Paraguay vs. Japan
5-3 {Penalty Shoot-Out}

Spain vs. Portugal
1-0

*And the answer is yes.

Yes my lovelies I will be wearing my shorts.

GO Team Brazil GO!!

XOXOXOXO,

The fact that England had that goal taken away put them behind, and also obviously demoralized them. Therefore, England was playing catch-up and playing more aggressive offense, leaving their defense weaker, which is why Germany was easily able to score those two goals in the second half.

@10:39, You can’t really say that things would have went the same in the second half if England’s second goal had been counted. The whole thing was a meaningless disgrace. Also, that was an incredibly dishonest move on the German goalie’s part to snatch the ball right back up to try to cover up that the ball went in the goal rather than letting it be because he obviously saw that it had.

England deserved to be sent home. Team Germany's players were younger and stronger. Rooney failed to live up to his expectations-- his head was not in the game.

The only cup worth talking about is my coffee cup. This is one of the reasons americans don't give a crap about the world cup. The officiating is like the judges in ice skating at the olympics...subjective. What is FutBol?????? FUWT BOWL?? Nobody cares about mediocre FUT BOL in the US, Its not a Real Sport like NFL or NBA........... You Fut Blowers should latch on to a Real Sport.

It's time for a 5th official to be assigned to be able to overrule the call on the field after looking at the replay. The disallowed goal led directly to Gerrmany's other two goals. England came out agressively looking for the tying goal by pushing everyone up front and risking the counter attack - and that is precisely how Germany scored. If the score had been tied then Capello would have deployed a more conservative tactic and the Germans may not have had those counter attacking goals.

12:33, This disallowed goal directly led to Germany's other two goals"... One missed goal led to TWO goals? Germany was the better team, that was obvious. England lost by 3 goals, not one. England did not play up to their expectations the entire tournament. England deserved to be sent home. Team Germany's players were younger and stronger. Rooney failed to live up to his expectations--his head was not in the game. I'm sure most fans in England would agree as to who played the better match Sunday. Congrats to Germany.

Would it have really mattered if the goal was allowed? Germany still would have won.

I thought this was the best game so far - no dives - very few whistles - agreed, the officials were pathetic.

After the U.S.A. lost to Ghana, the tv audience in America dropped by almost 50%. So much for soccer ever becoming a major sport in the U.S. In Germany it's "Soccer, Bratwurst, and Volkswagon". Kinda like the term "Baseball, Apple Pie, and Chevrolet" still is in America. Gooooooooo GERMANY!!!!!!

2:28-- Your question proves you have no clue about the game of football(soccer). Had the goal been allowed it would have changed the entire dynamic of the game. There should have been a review just as in the USA-Slovenia game. Seems like mighty big errors on FIFA's big stage. Is there some money involved in this? Referees in the game don't have to say a word to anyone regarding their conduct on the fields of play. No explanation, just an unnamed depositor to their account. This was too glaring an error to believe it was a "mistake" by the official.

I just love the way you say "My lovelies".... lol! It shows you still have a bit of England in you. I say m'lovelies all the time..lol! Anywayz, alas England are (completely deservedly) out of the cup and on their way home. What has happened to ye ole stiff upper lip, passion and grit? eh? I think there is an extreme lack of chocolate flakes and curly whirlies in peoples diets nowadays, along with a lack of knotted handkerchiefs.

ps. I don't think the disallowed goal made any difference. Our boys simply didn't deserve to go through. Bring back the stocks and rotten tomatoes, I say!!! lol!

3:19, What game were you watching? It was the worst game played and this has to be the worst England team ever. Or maybe poor coaching. Or maybe the games are fixed? Here are questions to ask-- Why did the coach not bring on Peter Crouch to play?? Why did Rooney not get near the ball in the second half??? So one of the English goals was disallowed even though the whole world knew it was good?

First the goal taken away from the USA against Solvenia, and now Lampard's goal for England???? I think this was most poorly officiating that I've ever seen in any sport!

The FIFA officials at the WC are pathetic. FIFA stands for - Fools Intentionally Freeloading Off Athletes.

World Cup highlights-- England did not show well, France sucked big time and Italy ready for the senior tour.

@4:11@11:04@1:38, FACT-- The majority of match-fixing is the result of betting syndicates affiliated with organized crime worldwide. But with the advent of online gambling, these wagers can be tracked, and suspicious betting patterns can indicate that the fix is indeed in. At the 1982 World Cup in Spain, Austria faced West Germany in the final game of the group stage. Both teams knew going in that they could advance if the Germans won the game by two goals or less. After West Germany got on the board early in the game, players from both teams proceeded to kick the ball around aimlessly for 80 minutes, ensuring they would both advance.

The 1994 tournament gave us the tragic story of Colombian defender Andrés Escobar, who was murdered after scoring into his own net against the United States. Conspiracy theorists contend that his death wasn’t just a crime of passion by a group of mad football fans — they suggest that Medellin drug cartels bet on the Colombian team to win, and whacked the guy who ruined their payday. The story is so good ESPN made it the subject of their latest 30 for 30 documentary-- The Two Escobars

Then there is the NBA - referee Tim Donaghy's claims the NBA playoff games in 2002 and 2005 were rigged by the officials and --- the Los Angeles Lakers-Boston Celtics series, which has already had its own issues with the lopsided foul totals in Game 2.

Btw- The moment we see Landon Donovan clutching the World Cup Trophy in a motorcade down Sunset Boulevard is the moment we know the WC was rigged all along.

The call was clearly blown, but it did not impact the game. England... again... sucked as they have this entire World Cup. Their defense was so bad a high school soccer team could score against them. England's opinion of their skill is highly overrated. Let's not forget USA got screwed on 2 Goals. FIFA needs replay capability-get with MODERN times! The games are fixed or is it just blind uncaring ref's?
