I know you're all just holding your breath in anticipation for me to post Harvest Dinner: Part 2 given all the number of comments I received. Truly I’m touched-- a total of 2 and all by the same person. {BTW, thank you} But seeing how Halloween is only 2 days away I decided to post a Halloween entry. No worries, Harvest Dinner Part 2 will be posted next week. 

As you know since October 1st I have been posting a different drinkie associated with Halloween. Keeping up with the Halloween theme I came across a "TOP 13 LIST" of the "Best Videos/Songs" to play at a Halloween party and the "Best Halloween Television Specials" and thought I would share that list here. 

“It isn't just horror movies that can make the hair on the back of your neck stand up but music videos can also provide you with a good scare. Although Thriller which is  arguably the best music video of all time and a great tune to play at any Halloween bash, there are many others that have been overlooked. Below are 13 music videos that are a must for any Halloween party while others are filled with spook, horror themes, and disturbing images. In a nutshell- videos that give you the heebie jeebies.”

"This Halloween song favorite was built around the opening riff by lead guitarist Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser. In Halloween (1978) the song plays while Annie and Laurie are smoking cannabis. Zombieland (2009) it plays while Bill Murray, Tallahassee, and Wichita are getting high. The Stand by Stephen King – portion of the lyrics are at the beginning of novel, as well as the beginning of the television mini-series based on it."

"Dead Man's Party from Oingo Boingo was included in two iconic '80s movies -- 'Weird Science' and 'Back to School' -- the latter of which the band made a cameo in. The ghoul factor-- the dancing skeletons in this video that became one of the most recognized symbols of the band."

"From the director of 'Halloween' I & II remake Rob Zombie does a song based on the drag racer "DRAG-U-LA" from 'The Munsters.' Ironically, in the video, Rob rides around in the Munster Koach (not the actual Dragula racing car). The video also prominently features the killer robot from the 1939 serial, 'The Phantom Creeps."

"Rockwell suffers bizarre hallucinations with Michael Jackson singing backup in 'Somebody's Watching Me.' Is it a dog or a pig monster? Whose face is that in the mirror? Is the mailman really evil?" The song has a great beat and just enough "creep factor" to become a Halloween staple."

7. ♫ Bela Lugosi's Dead♫ 

 

Bauhaus

"Not only does it reference the original 'Count Dracula' actor, this nearly nine-minute song is synonymous with horror movies, Halloween, and Goth culture. Cut to a little over three-minutes for this video, it features scenes from the Tony Scott cult vampire movie 'The Hunger,' which starred the original androgynous blood sucker, David Bowie."

"Marilyn Manson is by far one of the most bizarre rockers, ever. In this video he is seen dressed in a dirty wedding dress, a tutu, and hiding in what seems to be a cave. With brief scenes of him riding on a pig and portraying Medusa, it is safe to conclude that Halloween is an everyday holiday for Marilyn."

"The song uses a sample of the guitars in "Helter Skelter" by The Beatles, as well as a vocal sample of Charles Manson singing the song. The video for this song consists of many graphic scenes from various horror movies."

"The video for 'Y Control' was directed by Spike Jonze and drew criticism for it's portrayal of a mob of ultra-violent children. Shot in B-Horror movie fashion, there are scenes of child vampires sucking blood from Karen-O, child mutilation and (gulp) images of children carrying the body of a dead dog."

"Shot on the same grounds as Stanley Kubrick's 'A Clockwork Orange,' Aphex Twin's 'Come to Daddy' has just about every great scary music video theme. From television demons to a twisted mob of children who all sport grinning Aphex Twin masks, this video is so creepy it’s disturbing."

12. "The Paul Lynde Halloween Special"

 "If you've heard every argument why the majority of 1970's pop-culture should be sealed in a box and not revealed to any future generations and still aren't convinced then watch this. This'll do it for you. So bad that this disco-inspired Halloween lovin' comedy spectacle is so scary it made our list. **This special featured the television debut of the band KISS in the special: Click here to watch.  

11. "Bugs Bunny In Transylvania 6-5000" "This is a short Merrie Melodies animated film. When the wise cracking bunny takes a wrong turn he must spend the night at the castle of Count Bloodcount in Transylvania."  10. Gilligan's Island: "Up At Bat" "Gilligan, having been bitten by a bat, dreams he is Dracula in turn of the century Transylvania. The episode is filled with a motherlode of Freudian imagery."                         9. Everybody Hates Chris: "Everybody Hates Halloween"   One of the most underrated sitcoms of the ’00s offered up a classic Halloween episode in its first season, where Chris is asked by his mother to accompany his siblings while they trick or treat and Julius buys inexpensive generic brands of candy – you know, like Two Musketeers…which leads to a counterattack from Rochelle."               8. M*A*S*H-- "Trick or Treatment" "There’s an oft-repeated blanket statement that the last few seasons of “M*A*S*H” were too damned serious for their own good, which is a fair cop, but they still managed to slip a classic in once in awhile, and this one definitely qualifies. It's time for the annual 4077th Halloween party. Hawkeye is dressed as Superman, B.J. is a clown, Margaret is a geisha girl, Colonel Potter is a cowboy and Klinger is Al Capone."           7. The Simpsons: "Treehouse of Horrors V"   "Treehouse of Horror V" is arguably the best of The Simpsons' annual "Treehouse" episodes, consisting of Shining parody "The Shinning," cannibalistic teachers in "Nightmare Cafeteria," and the brilliantly conceived segment, "Time and Punishment." In "Time and Punishment," a parody of the Ray Bradbury short story "A Sound of Thunder.”  3. Roseanne: "BOO"  "The Connors love Halloween; deeply and, perhaps, somewhat insanely. They commit to it, from the costumes to their home-made haunted house to Dan scaring Roseanne with a chainsaw and a hockey mask - while back-lit with a flood lamp. Friday October 29th 2010,

"Black Cat"

"This is one Black Cat you won't mind if it crosses your path. At first glance you may think that the flavor combination is a little strange, but it's actually very good. This is a delightful cocktail for Halloween parties."

INGREDIENTS:

* 1 oz Vodka

* 1 oz Cherry Brandy

* Canberry Juice

* Cola

DIRECTIONS:

1. Pour the vodka and brandy into a highball glass filled with ice.

2. Fill the glass with equal amounts of cranberry juice and cola.

Good Saturday Morning to all my loyal and dear readers. By now you should now exactly how many days remain until my most beloved holiday arrives. OH YEAH!! 

Today is October 30th-- a day full of mischief and mayhem.


My lovelies, I present to you Day #30 Halloween themed drinkie:

Saturday October 30th, 2010

"The Hull Cleaner"

                                                       

Don't like sweet drinks? Try this basic dirty martini inspired by our favorite "Heathers" murder.  

INGREDIENTS:
*Two ounces London-Style Dry Gin
*Dry Vermouth
*Olive Juice
*Blue Food Coloring



PREPARATION:

1.Put just a whisper of gin in a mug and gently swirl.

2.Combine gin, vermouth, food coloring, and ice in a cocktail  shaker and pour into mug.

3.Serve gently, with a chainsaw. 

4.Beware of coffee tables.

HALLOWEEN 2010

My lovelies, today is October 31st. I present to you Day #31 Halloween themed drinkie:

BLOOD DRIP

 "A drink for those who like to to sip your martini “vampire style” this Halloween! The “blood rim” is made from the same kind of mixture as you’d use to make hard candy. It’s actually pretty easy, but you will need a candy thermometer (which you can find at most grocery stores)"

INGREDIENTS:

*1 c. Sugar

*1/2 c. Karo Syrup

*1/2 c. Water

*Red Food Coloring

Directions:

Combine sugar, syrup and water. Cook without stirring to hard crack stage – which is 300 degrees F. Add food coloring.

 

Turn off heat. While the mixture is still hot, dunk the top of the cocktail glass into the mixture to create the red rim. If you need to do several glasses, keep the mixture hot so it lasts longer (instead of turning heat off, just reduce slightly).You can go anywhere from just along the very tip of the rim to part way down the glass – whichever you prefer. Flip the glass right side up to cool. The thick consistency of the mixture will cause “drips” as it hardens on the glass!
