London 2012 & The Muppets

Cocaine Princess here.

I live in a fairly quiet country especially when it comes to certain things like current events.  Most of the time the US news will dominate media outlets up here on a daily basis. I’m not saying that nothing news-worthy happens in the Great White North because it does but US current events is far more interesting than ours. One of the interesting bits of news to come up here from the across the boarder {aside from gun control} is Chik-Fil-A. A franchise we don't have yet.

Recently the multimillion dollar empire’s president Dan Cathy is under fire after stating  his opposition to same-sex marriage. The Jim Henson Company had partnered with Chick-Fil-A to feature Jim Henson's Creature Shop toys -- "essentially a plastic tube with cut-out features for customizing your own puppet" -- in their kid's meals from mid-July until August 18th. They are now cutting ties with the restaurant over their homophobic stance. I've loved The Muppets since I was a little kid so I say Cheers to Jim Henson and Co. for posting this statement on their Facebook page:

Let The Games Begin!! The Olympics begin today aka London 2012. Over the course of 70 days, torchbearers carried the Flame through more than 1,000 cities, towns and villages in the UK and covering more than 8,000 miles but not without incident. On July 10th a male streaker made an attempt to steal the torch. It's actually quite funny. Click here to see the crazy naked guy in action as well as the police who tackled him to the ground. Ouch!

Yesterday on Day 69 a host of celebrities including actresses Jennifer Saunders and Dawn French from the funniest {and my fave} Brit-com ever, "Absolutely Fabulous" paraded the torch past famous London landmarks on the eve of the Games, including St Paul's Cathedral, Trafalgar Square, Downing Street and Buckingham Palace. It was simply phenomenal! The identity of the torchbearer who will ignite the cauldron today (Day 70) is the most closely guarded secret of all — and so far, that has not been leaked. Any guesses?

The official Olympic song is "Survival" by the English band Muse. Click here for the
video. If you recall I blogged an entry on what a terrible move Team GB manager made by leaving David Beckham off the squad. Most recently Sir Paul McCartney blasted the team manager by calling him an “idiot” for not keeping Mr. Beckham on the Olympic Team. No argument from this corner.

I can't wait to watch The Opening Ceremonies which is said to be a grand spectacle. Have you heard-- Duran Duran will be performing!! Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle will be the artistic director for the opening ceremony and the music director of the electronic music duo Underworld. A pre~recorded segment has been filmed inside Buckingham Palace, reportedly involving Queen Elizabeth II and Daniel Craig as secret agent James Bond.

As some of you know I was born in England. These days I'm feeling a tad more British than Latin. What can I say, London 2012 is bringing out my English side......Hmm, I have a sudden urge for crumpets.

My loyal and dear readers, it's finally Friday.
Whatever your plans are have a tremendous last weekend in July. ~x

The Muppets are Fabulous. I still remember Rizzo the Rat saying in the Christmas Movie. "Light the candle not the rat. Light the candle not the rat." I may have to go watch them again.

Dawn French--one of my favorite actresses. I loved her when she played the vicar. U just never knew what was gonna come out of her mouth and it was always hilarious.

I want to visit London. I used to teach my nieces to say in a British accent "Would u like a spot of tea?" When u are southern trying to sound British, it can be quite funny. Recenly, at the Coffeehouse (my night job), someone asked me if I was from London. I was somewhat shocked because I definitely have a southern accent. I was like no. They said, "Oh, u called me "Luv"." I always call people "Luv" or "Pumpkin" terms of endearment here in the south.

Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of time to watch the Olympics.

Miss Stormy Maples at 8:58,

My sister says "darling" or "my love" a lot. Dawn French playing Geraldine Granger in "Vicar of Dibley" was hilarious! I'd almost forgotten about that.

Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to leave a great comment.
I love your blog name-- "Serendipity." It's the same name of my Top 5 all time fave movies.

PS: Pumpkin-- what an absolutely sweet term of endearment.

I have fond thoughts of the movie, "Serendipity" which is why I named my blog that particular name after watching it. It summed up what I believed in. I, also, have a fondness for cashmere. Do u remember what started the whole "relationship"? The black cashmere gloves. What a dreamy movie!!! I loved it all. The near misses. And then the ending. Fabulous ending.

Miss Stormy Marples at 12:36,

Oops, I just realized I addressed you as "Maples" in my first comment to you.

I've seen that movie so many times that I know it by line by line. I remember my heart pounding when I thought they were finally going to meet but instead Sara gets into the cab & leaves just as John & Dean arrive at her apartment which had been turned into a bridal boutique, just above Serendipty.

Agreed- the ending was fab espcially when she throws the cashmere glove.....

It's ok. I like "Maple" syrup too. Ms. Maple--Ms. Marple. My undercover name is Ms. Marples. Ms. Marples=Jane Marple character from Agatha Christie's books because I am curious and act like a detective at times. Does not hurt that I work for the Detective's Office in real life either. A researcher by nature.

So many chance encounters--

It was wonderful seeing that glove come down. Awesome chance encounters. Yes those chance encounters. I loved when the dog wrapped around her legs with it's leash. I recently watched it again.

I love the fact that u remain a "mystery". Never showing ur face. I showed my pic once then took it down. It just seems better if u can have a mystery name and a mysterious face.

We are all here to enjoy one another not necessarily get involved in one's life intimately.

I love ur stories about ur travel plus ur family occasions. The weddings and whatnot.

Such fun--

Smile :0)

Miss Stormy Marples,

Actually when I read it was "Marple" the inquisitive detective popped into my head.

Thank you for reading and enjoying my entries.

U r like the sweetest model I have ever met. I imagine beautiful women and men have to protect themselves from admirers and fans. I work at a Coffeehouse in Memphis with a male model. He has recently been in a music video by Little Big Town. He flew to NYC to meet up with agents. But u and he come across as loving and down to Earth. I have to admire that character in both of u. Thank u for taking the time to read and comment on my blog. A very simple blog that I do so my best friend in a few states over can read. It is the way we stay connected. I look forward to ur Friday blog. I have come to enjoy ur stories about ur life.

Miss Stormy Marples at 12:55,

Thank you for your lovely comment. I just saw the video online and although I don't listen to lot of country music I recognize the group Big Little Town. I watched the 'CMA Country Christmas' on TV last December only because Miss Piggy (big Muppet Fan!!) was singing a duet with Vince Gill. The group sang two Christmas songs.
I saw the video for Kiss Goodbye. http://www.iviewtube.com/v/173905/little-big-town-kiss-goodbye-%28official-music-video%29 Where exactly is he?

Miss Stormy "Gumshoe" Marples said...

I listen to all kinds of music. Depends on my mood. Adam, Coffeehouse coworker, was in Little Big Town Kiss Goodbye. He is the sweetest guy. He love cougars. Meow. He dates women that are 10 to 15 years older than him. People give him a hard time about it. He knows what he likes and he does not explain himself to anyone in that regards. I love him for that. Not giving into the pressure of society.

Oops he is the dude that is in the truck. He is the lover. The tall blonde one.
