Cocaine Princess here.
Wow! It's been an extravagant few days in the fashion world especially in Italy where Milan Fashion Week is taking place. You know how there are some people who love watching and reading about sports, well when it comes to fashion I LOVE watching, reading and attending fashion events-- basically anything that is fashion related, for obvious reasons of course. Here are some of the Spring~Summer 2013 highlights shown on the catwalks of Milan from a few of the biggest names in designs.
"MOSCHINO"
It was all about the swinging 60s, the mod look and flower power with A-line mini skirts, flower print dresses and black horizontal stripes. Models had beehive hairstyles and heavy smoky eyes in homage to the late Amy Winehouse as her song "Let's Have A Good Time" boomed through the speakers.
"JUST CAVALLI "
Roberto Cavalli without a doubt is my absolute favorite designer so it's my personal opinion that Mr. Cavalli can do no wrong. The fabrics he selects and the pieces he designs are like works of art and should be put on display in a museum. For his SS13 collection Roberto looked to the Mediterranean sea for inspiration. Sheer (a trend also seen during London Fashion Week and big for 2013) silk blouses adorned with dazzling sea-like prints over skinny pants and elegant short sheer dresses shimmed down the runway.
27 year old Argentinian model Martin Mica, boyfriend of 54 year old actress Sharon Stone made a catwalk appearance wearing a white double-breasted summer suit-- white jacket and white tuxedo pants with leopard stripes down the sides. Guys, what do you think?
"VERSACE"
The venue for the show was held at the courtyard of Versace's palace headquarters in the Milan fashion district. Donatello's collection was absolutely near perfection with raised hemlines, tie-dye chiffon pieces that had added see-through lace. Very vibrant colors and lightweight fabrics were used. Big brother Gianni Versace must be smiling down from heaven.
"GUCCI"
Gucci decided to ditch using the color black and went for a 70s vibes and used splashes of bold and bright colors. Plenty of tunics and wide legged pants and pant suits. I like the vibrant palette of colors but I'm not really feeling this collection. I think I'll stick to their shoes, jewels and handbags.
"MISSONI"
I'm a big fan of Missoni, you know the fashion house responsible for those amazing zig-zag knit wear prints but I'm undecided about this one. It was totally not what I expected. For SS13, Angela Missoni went for the "mysterious intergalactic tourist" look. The collection consisted of sheer organza trapeze dresses mixed with layered ombre colored pieces.
"JIL SANDER"
One of the most anticipated and big ticket shows for Milan Fashion Week was for Jil Sanders who returned back to her namesake label after 6 years. Critics were calling it "her triumphant return." I call it an utter disappointment. Unless you're into the whole slouchy Amish look, I didn't find one likeable piece. Hey, Anna Wintour may disagree but we're all entitled to our opinion, right?
"PUCCI"
Pucci drew inspiration from the Far East by using oriental prints and geisha girl style mini robes and tunics. The intricate embroidery designs is impeccable.
"FENDI"
The venue for Fendi SS13 took place at the lovely Fondazione Pomodoro. 78 year old designer Karl Lagerfield used fur and leather and layered it over one another to create a 3D effect. There were a lot of two tone colors on his dresses with cotton or leather fronts and fur back.
"DOLCE & GABBANA"
This truly was one amazing show. Domenico Dolce confirmed that this collection was all about "the idea of glamorous holidays in Sicily". Winged black liquid liner, swinging chandelier earrings, Brigitte Bardo updo's, a mulititude of gorgeous and colorful printed mini dresses and outfits mixed with 50s swimwear set to the music of "Volare" made one truly feel they were at the Italian seaside. Bravo!
Three major trends: Sheer fabrics, raised hemlines and a bold red/burgundy lip.
Next stop: PARIS!!
