2010 World Cup: Day 17

****Updated: Tuesday June 29th 12:52pm

No Asian team has ever beat a South American team and Japan was ready on the field to be the first. It was Japan's Blue Samurais against Paraguay. The score was 0-0 and after 90min the game went into 30 min of overtime. After 15 minutes there was no goal. After another 15min, still no frigging goal. Both coaches were frustrated and ready to burst!

After 120 minues Japan had 4 yellow cards and Paraguay was issued 1 and the score was tied at 0-0.

For the first time at the World Cup 2010 the winner was determined on a penalty shoot out. Each team received 5 shots.

Paraguay won the coin toss and scored a goal. Next, Japan.
The score 1-1.

..........Japan missed a shot giving a clear advantage to the South Americans who scored.

Paraguay: 4 Japan: 3

At this moment Japan's players began to pray on the field when it was Parguay's turn.

In the end Paraguay won crushing the Blue Samurais dream and for the first time Paraguay has made it to the quarter finals.

Final Score: 5-3 on penalties.

****Updated: Monday June 28th 4:25pm

......And the samba beat goes on and on!!

The Samba Kings played an awesome game against Team Chile. In the 34th minute the first goal by Brazil was scored, 4 minutes later, the second. The 3rd came in the second half.

Brazil plays next against The Netherlands in the quarter finals.

Hmm, will Team Brazil samba their way into the finals? We shall see.

My latest World Cup souvenir: a Team Brazil flip-flop key chain.

 Cocaine Princess here.

Day 17:

Two of World Cups biggest rivals battled it out today.

VS.

According to several reports the prediction:  England: 2 Germany: 2

England wins on penalties.

The Reality:

All I can say, this match was far more exciting and controversial than Brazil playing Portugal. It has been called "England's worst ever World Cup defeat." Before the first half was over Germany had scored 2 goals! The second half: 2 more goals in twelve minutes! As one commentator stated: "Germany drove a stake through the heart into England and got their sweet revenge after 44 years."

My thoughts on Team England's loss? Hmm, perhaps if God wasn't so busy saving the Queen he could have helped the boys across the pond score a few goals.

So what does Germany winning mean? Well my lovelies it means 4 things:

1} England has been sent home.

2} Germany advances to the quarter finals and will be playing against Team Argentina who won today's match against Mexico. Adiós México.

3 }The Team England flag is no longer waving from my sister's car.

AND BEST OF ALL:

4} Sister has stopped humming "Rule, Britannia!"

And thank God because it was driving me frigging crazy.

Sunday June 27th

Germany vs. England
4-1

Argentina vs. Mexico
3-1

Monday June 28th

     Netherlands vs. Slovakia
2-1

*Brazil vs. Chile
3-0

Tuesday June 29th

Paraguay vs. Japan
5-3 {Penalty Shoot-Out}

Spain vs. Portugal
1-0

*And the answer is yes.

Yes my lovelies I will be wearing my shorts.

GO Team Brazil GO!!

The Gymnasium Part 4: The Toast Dilemma

****Updated Saturday June 26th****

The scores from games played today are updated below.

I didn't see the match between Ghana vs. USA but from what I heard it was a 'stinging, and tough defeat'  "Asamoah Gyan scored 3 minutes into overtime, leading the Black Stars to a 2-1 victory that ended a thrilling but ultimately unfulling World Cup for the United States that was watched by record audiences back home."

The other match: Uruguay beat South Korea and they will advance to the quarterfinals.

Two big matches will be played tomorrow, Sunday June 27th:

The British tabloids have plenty to say about this game. {Their rivalry began in 1966}  Which ever team wins will advance and the losing team will be sent home.

Team Germany vs. Team England*
9:45am

Team Argentina vs. Team Mexico
2:15pm

*Fingers crossed David Beckham will be at the game again, watching and cheering from the sidelines.

**** Updated: Friday June 25th 12:06pm:

Brazil vs. Portugal

The game lasted 90 minutes with 5min of additional time. To quote the commentator:

"The 2nd half of the game was worse than the 1st half! I've never seen so many yellow cards handed out!"

Neither team scored but good news: Brazil leads in their group with the most number of points allowing them to advance. ****

........By the time they were done telling me {and thanks to their in depth report I don't need to read the books} breakfast was served to us but there were several little problems beginning with Problem #1 a.k.a. "The Toast Dilemma."

Yes my lovelies the wait is finally over!! After 7 days of waiting I present to you {insert drum roll}.........

Part 4: The Toast Dilemma

As each one was given their plate of breakie which consisted of toast, eggs, bacon and mini hash browns with their choice of milk or juice as a beverage, one girl said she preferred her toast cut in the shape of a triangle and not a rectangle while another wanted his toast cut in the shape of a rectangle and not a triangle. Talk about a dilemma, right?! Since neither of them had touched their toast I told them to switch.

And so the dilemma involving the toast was solved in a matter of seconds. Hey it’s perfectly understandable. Long time followers of my blog know that I prefer square waffles over round ones. Why? I have come to the conclusion square waffles just taste darn better than round ones.

If only the problem had ended there. Here were some other problems my gang had with breakie:

1}
"There's pulp in my juice. Yuck."

2}
"There’s bones {crust} on my toast. I can't eat this."

3}
"Why are my eggs folded? I asked for hard boiled."

4}
"I'm lactose intolerant, I can't drink milk.”

One by one with their plates I went up to the cooking area. At one point "A"  questioned what I was doing and more importantly why I wasn't with my assigned group? I explained it was because I was too busy playing waitress.

I was able to straighten out their orders to their satisfaction:

1}
The pulp in the juice was strained.

2}
The bones from the toast was neatly removed.

3}
The folded eggs were returned for a hard boiled egg.

4}
A cold glass of OJ was given to the one who had trouble digesting dairy.

Ahh, finally there was peace among my peeps.

Breakfast Chit-Chat

As we chowed down, Pint Size Dictator {PSD} asked me a question:

“Where’s your bossy sister?”

I pointed to where she was. Sister was with the other volunteers cooking.

PSD: How come you’re not with her?

ME: I’d rather be here with you guys.........and because I don’t cook.

Immediately following my reply Froggie decided to shell out some age old wisdom.

FROGGIE: The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Something you may want to think about my friend.

I put down my fork.

ME: Who told you that?

FROGGIE: My gramps did but I don’t think it’s true. Mommy can’t cook but daddy still keeps her around.

Trying not to laugh I said:

ME: How have you been? I haven’t seen you since before Christmas.

FROGGIE: That’s right. Oh boy it has been a long time but my daddy sees you every morning. You go jogging.

I informed my little acquaintance about a conversation I had with his dad one morning where during a friendly exchange of banter I had been told Froggie quit his karate lessons. When I questioned him if it was true he nodded his head to indicate yes. I then asked what the reason was. Before answering he took a bite out of his toast, washed it down with his juice, scratched his head and after taking a deep breath he answered:

FROGGIE: I got bored with it so I tried out for the swim team and guess what? I made the team.

ME: That's awesome.

FROGGIE: I'm having a ton more fun!

A new little face joined in on the conversation.

NEW FACE: We're on the same team and we have our first big meet in the city in 2 weeks. We compete against another school.

ME: Very cool. Both of you guys give me a high five.

After giving me high fives I giggled.

FROGGIE: What's so funny friend?

ME: You're just so cute.

FROGGIE: Cute?
Mommy says I'm devilishly handsome.

Here's the real reason why I was giggling:

Just like all children Froggie is very cute but as cute as he is, he's also very skinny. You know how some kids have pipe cleaner like arms and legs? I'm quite sure by the time he hits puberty he'll bulk up but as soon as he told me he was on the swim team I immediately pictured Froggie wearing tiny speedos and goggles.

The Silent Auction

One year ago the school was raising money for The Breakfast Club, this time money was being raised to send kids to summer camp whose families can't afford. Aside from buying a plate of food, like last year there were several items up for auction where all proceeds went to the charity. If you recall auction fever hit several of us, myself included, and we all wound up over paying for items we bid on. Hmm, now that I think about it I severely overpaid.

Remember this folding lawn chair I kept insanely bidding on and eventually won?:

This year lawn chairs were up for auction again. Each chair was hand-crafted but this time each chair was hand-painted with pictures on them. I really liked this one.

The picture is of a whale and it came with a matching little patio table.

I placed one bid and one bid only.

QUARTER-TIME

Everyone was interested in trading their quarters first before doing any type of arts and crafts. In 2009 the Royal Canadian Mint released into circulation special quarters honoring snow and ice sports for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. It took awhile but my collection is complete.

The quarters are still in circulation so before leaving "A" and I both checked our wallet and between the 2 of us we had near $5.00 in spare coins. One more special quarter was released in honor of Sidney Crosby after he scored the winning goal. I was lucky enough to get my manicured hands on one. Are any of my lovelies interested in knowing how it happened? Yes or no?

If your answer is no, too bad. I've decided to share it anyways:

It was a cold and drab morning in March and I was out for my daily morning jog when I had a sudden craving for a Diet Dr. Pepper. {When I get a craving for something they always come at the oddest times} I stopped in the 7-11 and headed to the back of the store where the cold drinks are kept. As I was making my way there I couldn't help but notice the ice cream freezer had a sign: Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia ice cream bar was on special. “2 for the price of 1.” Although I was tempted I said no and continued walking. I grabbed a cold bottle and proceeded up to the counter where the cashier gave me change after giving her 2 toonies. It wasn't until I returned home and emptied my pockets I realized I had one of the most valuable Olympic coins in my possession. I was so happy I did a backwards somersault!

The little ones all had their coins and their boards in front of them on the table and any double coins they had were securely kept in ziplock bags. I carried mine in my Gucci wallet. Everyone was busy trading their coins back and forth. 2 of them didn't have the hockey quarter and since I already had a couple of them I was more than happy to give my spare ones up. If you had only seen the look on their faces. One of them ran up to his mama to show his coin set was complete. That portion of the day was pretty fun.

ARTS & CRAFTS

We cut, we pasted, we glued, we colored, we molded things out of clay and painted them. It was known as the messy portion of the day but also quite fun.

After we cleaned up, a light snack was served and off we went to watch the DVD movie they all unanimously agreed on.

To be Continued.........

Cocaine Princess here.

So......the debate between “A” and I on whether I would be “nice” to Poodle Lady could have dragged on for days if I hadn’t of just walked away. I was starting to develop a big headache. As I left sister said, “don’t forget to take your quarters.” “I already have them packed in my bag,” I replied.  Hmm, quarters you say my lovelies? I’ll explain all about the “quarters” later on.

The gymnasium was pretty full and the smell of breakie cooking was mmm-mmm. I found my little group and sat down with them but only for a minute. Those little plastic chairs are not very comfortable for adults.

My little group consisted of: Brittany Spears wannabe and her brother who I have nicknamed Baby Jaws because of his appetite for flesh {he bites}, Pint Size Dictator {PSD}, Froggie and 5 new faces I’d never seen before and was looking forward in getting to know them. As we were waiting for breakfast here’s what I found out:

1} Miley Cyrus and The Hannah Montana Show are both out. Although I'm not ashamed to admit I like Miley’s newest video.

2} Taylor Swift and  Selena Gomez are in. The Wizards of Waverly Placeand another Disney show called “I’m With The Band” are hot and popular among the little ones and they all adore the show Glee.”

I also am a fan of the show Glee. Each week different songs are chosen that fit with the storyline. In one episode: "The Power Of Madonna," they covered 8 of Madonna's songs. Did anyone see the video the show made for Vogue?  The season finale was spectacular and their tribute to Journey was awesome.  My favorite character from the show has got to be stone cold Cheerio coach Sue Sylvester. Her snide, little comments and her never ending feud with Will Schuester is quite funny.

3} The Jonas Bros. are a thing of yesterday and Justin Bieber is most definitely in and according to the girls, “he is totally smoking hot.”

My lovelies, I would like to take a moment to ask you a question. A question that I myself was asked:

“Can you name 40 different facts about Justin Bieber?”

No? Hey don’t feel so bad, neither could I but the girl who asked me could. She began with Fact #1:

“Justin was born on March 1st 1994...."

When she reached Fact #22 she was interrupted by one of the new faces who said:

"I like Drizzy D and Rihanna."

Just as I was about to ask him a question, Justin's #1 fan got up from her chair and tugging on my dress said, "I'm not finished. May I continue please?" "Of course," I replied. "Carry on." She sat back down and then had this to say:

"I forgot where I left off. Okay, I'll start at #1 again."

"No," pleaded PSD. "You were at boring fact #22."

"Oh yeah. Okay, fact #22....."

Good grief! She continued all the way to fact #40. By the time she was done there was a huge sigh of relief from the little men at the table.

4} The biggest movie they were all excited to see {at that time} “Diary Of A Wimpy Kid.” Many of them were into the books as well. I casually asked what the books were about and rather than give me the Cliff Notes version I was given a very detailed oral book report. As they each took a turn in telling me about the books in the series, Baby Jaws wouldn’t take his eyes off of me. He kept on staring while showing me his teeth and he even licked his lips at one point. I honestly didn’t know whether he was flirting or if it was some type of red light warning he was about to leap across the table and bite me.

By the time they were done telling me {and thanks to their in depth report I don't need to read the books} breakfast was served to us but there were several little problems beginning with Problem #1 a.k.a. "The Toast Dilemma."

My lovelies I'm going to have to stop here and will post Part 4 next week. Yes, yes I know what you're all saying: The Princess has yet again left one of her amazing posts with a nail biting cliff hanger. I'm sorry but you're going to have to wait until next Friday to find out what the dilemma with the toast was all about.

 *****

Now to the 2010 World Cup. Oh boy, I can already see some of you rolling your eyes and I can even hear some groaning so feel free to skip this part because I know most of you find soccer boring. No worries my lovelies, my feelings won't be hurt but if there is anyone who does have interest the latest scores are posted below. The scores from Friday June 11th to Tuesday June 15th are posted in the entry before this one.

****Scores are updated below****

Cocaine Princess here.

....Last week I posted The Gymnasium and I ended it with one bang of a cliff-hanger:

Good grief I hadn't even thought about that! I let out a deep sigh followed by a groan. My relaxing day of "me time" was postponed and instead I would be spending the entire Saturday in a gymnasium gluing pasta shells onto construction paper.

My lovelies I present to you The Gymnasium: Part 2.

So what was happening in the gymnasium and what was I volunteering for? There's a community charity that raises money to help send kids to summer camp whose families can't afford. Great cause, right? You buy a breakfast plate cooked by volunteers and of course "A" was one of them and all proceeds go to the charity. Most of the students at "A's" school would be in the gym hanging out doing activities.

I offered to write a cheque but apparently in sister’s mind that wasn’t enough.  I must also “put in the time and effort.” You know it days like that when I sometimes wonder if maybe Valentina’s theory of “A” being switched at birth could possibly be correct. I just don’t get her sometimes.

On that Saturday I was up bright and early and ready to enrich and nurture the lives of the younger generation!  I was standing in the kitchen leaning against the counter drinking a glass of juice when sister came up to me and said she has – get this– one, small, tiny, favor, Yes those were her exact words. And what was her one, small, tiny, favor?

Are you ready for it? You sure? Okay, here it comes.......

A: Please be nice to Poodle Lady.

I just about choked on my juice.

Me: What?! Don’t tell me she’s going to be there?

A: I can't say for sure she will be but you know the way she is. If there’s some type of event in the neighborhood you know she’s bound to attend.

Me: Of course she has too, she’s a busy-body and not to mention a crazy loon.

A: And that brings me to something else. Can you please refrain from calling her names in front of the kids. It’s bad enough they call her Mental Lady Of The Neighborhood.{MLOTN}

Oh my goodness! I nearly spat my juice out from giggling so hard. And oh boy did I ever giggle. It was the first time I had ever heard that nickname. Mental Lady Of The Neighborhood. Got to hand it to those clever little lambs.....THEY NAILED IT!

Me: What do you want me to do if the kids see her and begin talking about her?

Again, in a very authoritative tone I was given specific instructions on how to deal, if the situation arose.

A: Whatever you do: do not encourage the conversation but do try to quickly steer the conversation into another direction.

Sister gave me a quick and brief rundown of the latest things they were into and what their favorite books, movies, music, and TV shows were and to ask them questions about that. After, she repeated the question again on whether or not I would be “nice” to, well, you know who.

Me: Define the word “nice.”

A: I’m not going to define the word. You know what it means. I don’t want you being rude to her and I don’t want you talking back to her.

I gave her a kind of look that meant what the hell? Are you serious?

Me: Have you forgotten about what happened at the petition meeting?

A: She’s an old woman-

I cut her off.

Me: Then she belongs in a nursing HOME.

Although I am quite positive the minute she gets checked into one the staff will realize there’s been a horrible mistake and their latest patient belongs in a psychiatric hospital instead. Sister continued where I cut her off.

A: She’s an old woman and if she says something you know she doesn’t really mean it, darling

Me: Let me ask you a question: is there something you need to tell me about yourself and Poodle Lady-

A: She has a proper name so can you please stop calling her that?

Me: Oh right, so sorry. Is there something you need to tell me about yourself and Mental Lady Of The Neighborhood- did you and her suddenly become best friends?

A: No darling, but do you really want to cause a scene in the middle of the gymnasium for everyone to see?

Me: What do you want me to do if she comes right up into my face and starts yapping her nonsense at me or asking me stupid questions?

I could already see her lipstick smeared all over her front teeth.

A: You ignore her.

Me: Then she’s going to accuse me of being deaf like the last time. A “deaf atheist” if I recall, which I’m neither of.

A: Then just let whatever she says roll off of you, okay?

At this precise moment I blew a tiny raspberry and said:

Me: No. It’s not okay. There’s only so much a human being can take so why should I have to put up with her?

A: It’s called being the bigger person.

Good God in heaven! I was seriously about to lose it at that point that I calmly had to count backwards from 10 to 1 as her words 'it’s called being the bigger person' echoed in my head. I hate it when she throws those words at me. Very calmly and after taking a couple of deep breaths I said:

Me: I have been “nice” to that woman. I have been hospitable to that woman even when she accused me of not being hospitable. I have held my tongue in every time she opens her mouth and says something insane to me and I have been the bigger person every time I have come in contact with her and you know what? I’m tired of it.

The conversation went on for several more minutes. I will say this: more than anybody else on the face of this planet MLOTN has been the cause of so many disagreements between “A” and I. We just cannot seem to agree when it comes to her. Hell we can’t even agree to disagree! I simply refuse to see sister’s point of view and perhaps some of you are siding with her and if that’s the case, well that’s fine. You are completely free to choose whomever you think is right. But just so you know, those of you who did side with her, you don’t receive any of my hugs and kisses this week and I will simply refer to you as my un-lovelies

To Be Continued.....

Today is Friday June 11th 2010. You know what the means, right? The official start of the 2010 World Cup!!!!! I can tell all my lovelies are excited about soccer......yes that was sarcasm.

More than 700 of the greatest soccer players will take part in the World Cup which is held every 4 years. This year’s game will be played in South Africa in 10 different stadiums. The official song for the games is sung by that cutie pie hip shaker. 32 teams are competing. The first 2 matches today are:

BRAZIL vs. Korea DPR

Right about now I bet you’re asking, hmm what team is the Princess rooting for? Colombia you say.......You’re wrong. Colombia didn’t qualify this year but even if they did when it comes to soccer I've always rooted for BRAZIL BABY! BRAZIL! See my flag below, which I will be proudly displaying.

And here are my cute shorts.

I’ll be proudly wearing those on June 15th when Brazil plays North Korea.

I picked up another Brazil item a few days ago while I was in the city......a brand new jacket to go with my shorts.

Coca Cola is even feeling World Cup Fever:

The Coca-Cola Company is selling their popular drink Coke in the shape of little soccer balls.  The one to the left {white} is Diet Coke and the one on the left is Coca-Cola Classic. Hmm, if only Dr. Diet came out with something for the World Cup.

Oh yeah, guess who’s rooting for the team across the pond?

****
What else is happening this weekend? HBO’s most awesomest show “TRUE BLOOD” returns for a 3rd season on Sunday.  Can’t wait! Those of you who are fans: if you recall season 2 ended with "Bill proposing to Sookie but was kidnapped before he could hear her say yes leaving fans wondering who is the kidnapper? Whoever kidnapped Bill was wearing gloves to brandish the silver chain, so could it be that other vampire, Eric, since the Queen had instructed him to take care of Bill earlier before the southern dead man exposed their v-dealing shenanigans?"

****
And now for 2 totally unrelated things:

The day I bought my little shorty-shorts I also picked up a pair of red stilettos I saw in the same store. They were too cute to pass up.

The day I picked up the soccer drink bottles, directly across from the Coke was this:

Arnold Palmer Half & Half Iced Team Lemonade. It was selling quite well in the store!
